TuneIn

Last time we mentioned TuneIn Radio it was at version 1.8 in February. I just got a notification from App World that TuneIn Radio is now at version 3.0 which is a pretty big bump in less than 2 months. We have no idea what is new in the app but let us know if you spot anything.

You can pick up the latest version of TuneIn Radio free in App World

BlackBerry Touch 9860 Monza Commercial Also Leaked

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 08:49 PM PDT

BlackBerry Touch 9860 Monza

Following on the heels of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 commercial leak we now have one for the BlackBerry Touch 9860 thanks to N4BB again. This one seems to focus on media for some reason but still looks hot. Nothing really groundbreaking like the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot is shown but I still see these selling well if RIM gets over the Storm fiasco.

Check out the video below:

Sometimes Mobile Advertisements Assume too Much…

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 12:04 PM PDT

UberTwitter Advertisement Fail

Mobile ads are coming into more and more BlackBerry apps. Its sort of a double edged sword but it gets us more free quality apps. On the other hand it sometimes makes you wonder why the app decides to show you that specific ad. I know I see many dating ads on Facebook or even BerryReview when the article discusses dating but at what point does it become too intrusive?

I am not specifically pointing out this ad but unlike website ads the advertisements in mobile apps tend to be more in your face. Let us know what you think of ad supported apps in the comments.

Exchange My Mail Offers BES Express Hosting – Works With BIS Plans

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 10:35 AM PDT

Exchange My Mail BES Express Hosting

I was waiting for Microsoft Exchange BES hosting companies to jump on BES Express. Until now most Microsoft Exchange hosting companies have been using BES Premium which requires that users have what is usually a more expensive BES data plan from your carrier. With BES Express these hosting companies can let you use a regular (usually cheaper) BIS plan with all the same features. For example, on AT&T that means the difference between $25-$30 a month for a BIS plan or $40-$45 a month for a BES plan.

Exchange My Mail is offering their BES Express hosting service for the same $9.99 as their regular BES hosting. That means you would still be paying Exchange My Mail the same monthly fee for each mailbox but you could downgrade your data plan. The only real difference is you would need to download a BES Express activation app to activate a BES Express device instead of using the regular activation app built into the BlackBerry. You can still do tethered activations though from both plans.

Check out Exchange My Mail's BES Express hosting option at this link and let us know if you switch over!

XIMAD Starts Rolling Out PlayBook Apps

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 08:45 AM PDT

At one time or another on our BlackBerry’s we have all probably used a XiMad app.  And they were kind enough to let us know that they have started releasing PlayBook apps via their AppWorld Portfolio.  They have even ported over 25 of their games and apps from Android to work on the PlayBook also.

Some of XiMad’s featured releases are Droplets, and Blonde Jokes HD.  They have also started creating animated eBooks for the PlayBook under the trademark “Books Alive”.  Some things we will for sure be checking out on April 19th!

Check out more in XiMad’s Website or AppWorld.

Adobe Rocked by Yet Another Critical Exploited Flash Vulnerability

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 05:55 AM PDT

flash logo

I was not really joking around in our April Fools post when I mentioned that "if your device runs Adobe Flash it is not a matter of if you will be hacked but when." One of the questions I have asked RIM a few times is to explain how the managed to secure Flash on the BlackBerry PlayBook to an acceptable level. Flash and its components (AIR/FLEX) by proxy are notoriously exploited on a regular basis. Just take this new critical security vulnerability in Flash that is already being exploited on Windows machines through Word document files. This comes almost exactly a month after the previous exploited vulnerability.

This is pretty much standard business for Adobe which makes me wonder what steps RIM has taken to prevent this in the BlackBerry PlayBook. Adobe admits that this new vulnerability and previous vulnerability also leaves Android devices vulnerable though they already have a laughable security model that is designed to be broken.

Which leaves me wondering if RIM managed to cook up some QNX powered goodies to plug the inevitable Flash exploit. RIM has been mum on the subject so far and I have confirmed with some friends who are large enterprise customers of RIM that they are promising it is secure though not explaining how. The reason I worry is because previously the BlackBerry OS had a bit of security by obscurity going by not having public source code but that all changes with QNX which has had a relatively public source code for years.

On the other hand people have been telling me that consumers don't really care about security. That is why they don't care if their iToy or HackDroid can be jailbroken/rooted with one click. So I thought I would ask all of you if security/privacy matters to you and how that figures into your purchases?
