BlackBerry News Feeds Updated to v1.0.1.7 OTA Links Provided

154642I have to be honest every time I see an update come out for this application I get excited hopping they added my favorite features but like usual I am disappointed. The application is decent but it lacks some features that I really miss from VIIGO.  Not sure what is new on this release but I can sure tell you what it lacks.

Lacks support for Google Reader,  you cannot select or highlight multiple feeds to delete or to mark the ones you highlight as read. Another thing that really annoys me is having to open the browser to read feeds that have a break on them.  I could go on on the things this application lacks but on the bright side it has a really clean UI.

The application is not showing on my side as being updated through app world, thanks to @rr_yy we have some OTA links for you for OS 6 and OS 5.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager Updated v6.1.0.35 Bundle 34

RIM has been updating Desktop Manager improving features and making it more user friendly and today a new update is available. Version 6.1.0.35 Bundle 34 brings the following features:

  • Certificates -If your smartphone is associated with a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, you can download, import, and synchronize certificates between your computer and your smartphone.
  • Files -You can use the Files feature to copy files between your smartphone or tablet and your computer.
  • Media files -You can now synchronize and import encrypted media files.
  • Wi-Fi® music sync -You can use Wi-Fi music sync without launching the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Fixed issues:

  • Installation/Connection -On occasion, you might receive the following error message when you update or install the BlackBerry Desktop Software: "BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
  • If you install BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0, you can also install earlier versions of the BlackBerry Desktop Software
  • Backing up and restoring data -When you’re viewing the progress screen during a backup, the amount of data that’s being backed is incorrect. However, your data is still backed up
  • In some cases, BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet media files cannot be successfully backed up
  • It takes at least a minute to cancel a backup when you disconnect your tablet during a backup

Fightin’ Words Multiplayer Scrabble-like Gaming

In the past 12 months or so there has been quite a few games expanding the Scrabble-like genre for BlackBerry. The latest addition is Fightin’ Words for BlackBerry created by Interworks. The game actually came about because they did not find the popular iOS/Android game "Words With Friends" available for BlackBerry so they made one. Sadly it does not look like it makes use of the new BBM Social Platform but hopefully they will in the future!

Features include:

  • Play words vertically or horizontally
  • Play head to head against other human opponents
  • POW tile can be used as any letter or replace another letter
  • Play many games at once
  • Choose between email or push notifications

Free Youmail App Updated to Version 2.3.4 Offers Mobile Access to Greetings and Number Search

Features:

How It Works

This is because when you use callback you are actually making two calls: one – to Skype contact or to phone number and another – to your callback number. Good Roundup of Resources Explaining PlayBook App Signing

Whenever you have to explain to a new BlackBerry developer how code signing works you are always sure to get some interesting questions. RIM has been trying their best to make the process a little more transparent and finally made it free but it is still far from simple. RIM gives Microsoft a run for its money when it comes to cryptic error messages and as one commenter points out even something as simple as having a comma in your company code signing name can cause worlds of painful debugging.

Thankfully we now have a pretty solid roundup of resources explaining code signing on the BlackBerry PlayBook (focused on Flash) by an Adobe Developer Evangelist of all people. I really wish RIM simply could make this a zero click process but they are hopefully working on that. Until then check out this great roundup of links and definitions by Renaun Erickson.
