Simply head on over to the Sprint download site @BlackBerry.com to pick it up Warning: This OS will not install on any other BlackBerry besides the one mentioned above. Don't forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device. | New High Level Apps & Games Categories in PlayBook App World Posted: 06 Jul 2011 05:45 PM PDT
When I first saw this earlier today I thought it was a bug since I had some shoddy reception. I then had Mac ask me about it while Luis confirmed it for him. It seems like RIM is creating two high level categories in App World for the BlackBerry PlayBook separating Apps from Games. I know Android does that but RIM has only previously separated Themes from all other apps in the smartphone App World app. Right now the icon for Apps is still not showing up so it seems like a work in progress. Either way I kind of like the idea of hierarchical categories since a huge portion of the apps in App World and many other app stores are games. What do you think? | BlackBerry App World Website Update Include Mac Support Posted: 06 Jul 2011 04:51 PM PDT
All the Mac users with BlackBerrys out there can now rejoice knowing that the BlackBerry App World website now supports Macs. Their @BlackBerryDev account announced that there will be no more of those annoying unsupported OS dead end messages! I really hope RIM got rid of that message totally no matter what the OS. The other nice perk of the update is that Macs can now sideload apps just like you could do until now on PCs. Now I hope RIM will add some filtering to App Worlds website at least for seeing only PlayBook apps… Kudos to the RIM App World team for making this happen. Keep the new features rolling in! | BlackBerry App World Website Gets a Nice Redesign Posted: 06 Jul 2011 10:02 AM PDT
With the announcement RIM sent out to developers we knew that there would be something interesting in App World today. After some on and off downtime through the morning RIM has brought up a nicely redesigned version of the App World Web Store website. The new design brings some cool new visual effects along with new product pages. I am loving the new white background in the app pages which is sooo much easier to read! You will still get a bunch of Maintenance pages if you do things like view more reviews but it is rounding out nicely. Hopefully App World 3.0 for devices is just as slick! I decided to buy another Playbook casing from Amazon after getting my BlackBerry PlayBook. As the original Blackberry Playbook Leather Convertible case was pulled and out of stock, I had to look for alternatives. First, I bought the GTMax case, where the cheaper version covered the whole bezel and i did not take notice in the pictures. Second, i bought a Targus Truss Leather case. The problem with the Targus to me was its weight. Indeed, it was very high quality leather, it was a little too thick for my liking and it weighed as heavy as a playbook to me. So I decided to try this Mivizu case on my PlayBook. Read on to see what its like! Mivizu Genuine Leather Cover with Stand for BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet
The product came in a simple bubble envelope, in a clear plastic sheet.
A small silica gel pack with Styrofoam filling protected the insides. Whilst no instructions or manuals are included, it was pretty easy to see how to put the device in: through the opening flap at the bottom. The interior is made of pretty anti-slip material so not only will it be sturdy when you use it as a stand, but also, you might have difficulty moving it in and out.
Weight wise, this was slightly heavier than the GTMax casing but definitely much lighter than the targus case.
Access to all the ports plugs and connections are pretty unhindered apart from the fact that the case has to be open to access it.
On the back, there is a orange strap. This strap can be used to strap the case close: shut or to hold your notes. Pros:

| RIM Posts Sample Signature Capture PlayBook App Source Code Posted: 06 Jul 2011 08:07 AM PDT
One of the popular uses I can see for PlayBooks and other tablets is the ability to simply forms and procedures that are currently done on paper. I know many companies that are already streamlining forms on their BlackBerrys but the PlayBook's larger screen allows for proper signature capture. While some companies do provide solutions for signature capture using BlackBerry smartphones they are kind of clunky. To show off how RIM thinks this kind of feature could work they released the source code of a sample app for developers to check out. Here is how RIM describes it:

ShvartzBerry let us know that YouMail has quietly updated the BlackBerry client for visual voicemail service. YouMail offers both paid and free (Ad supported) versions of their voicemail solution but they have been having trouble getting a solid BlackBerry client out there. Their recent upgrade to v2.3.4 offered up some nice new features but we could not find a change log for this latest update. Let us know if you spot one! | BlackBerry Push Service SDK v1.1.0 Quietly Rolled Out for Developers Posted: 06 Jul 2011 05:57 AM PDT
Its an odd move for RIM to not even mention this on their developer Blog but RIM updated their Push Service SDK tool to v1.1.0 late last month. Josep noticed that RIM has updated their documentation and release notes for the Push SDK on June 23rd and again on July 4th. This comes after their recent announcement that they were shuttering WebSignals and pushing developers to the Push API which makes sense. According to the change log on RIM's site this new version 1.1.0 includes the following new features for developers:

I am pretty happy with OS 6.0.0.600 on my Torch but I have not heard many reports of it on the Bold 9650 yet. You can now try it out for yourself officially thanks to Sprint. Quite a few readers let us know that the download is now available and some are already seeing it through desktop manager.
I really wish RIM would keep on churning out proof of concept apps like these for both WebWorks and AIR apps for the PlayBook. They are a great way to introduce devs into different use cases.
