BlackBerry Bold 9900 Gets FCC Approval

Posted: 12 Jul 2011 01:33 AM PDT

BlackBerry Bold 9900 FCC

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 just got on step further to ending up in your hand. It was spotted in the FCC database this week which means it is now approved for sale in the US. It also is packing a NFC radio as we already know which has also been approved. This seems to be for the GSM/HSPA+ 9900 version but hopefully the CDMA variant will be released shortly thereafter.

Bell Getting BlackBerry Bold 9900 on August 14th?

Posted: 11 Jul 2011 04:40 PM PDT

BlackBerry-Bold-9900

We have already heard a boatload about the upcoming BlackBerry lineup but it keeps on coming. You can just feel the excitement in the air. We have already seen rumors about Bell Canada carrying all of the upcoming BlackBerry lineup but one of our tipsters added some more info.

According to this manager at Bell, reps from multiple manufacturers (RIM, Motorola, HTC, Samsung, etc.) were at a recent conference pushing their devices. According to the info shared there the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be launching on August 14th. All that was said about the 9810, 9860, and 9360 was that it would launch shortly thereafter.

Another interesting tidbit was that they were talking about the "All Touch" 9860 Storm replacement. They were calling it a "Virtual QWERTY Keyboard" BlackBerry instead of a "BlackBerry without a keyboard." Makes me wonder if RIM Marketing is gonna give it some name again like SurePress.

Thanks @jimz22!

BlackBerry OS 8 Vision By Bongs

Posted: 11 Jul 2011 01:09 PM PDT

e4CChEarlier this month Bongs posted screenshots of his vision for OS 8 in our forums, now he has a video on Youtube.  We were really impressed with his works and if you had not seen the screenshots yet check out the video below and you will see why.

On the concept video he shows off the a fluid looking UI, with gestures, with a notification drop down box similar to the one currently on OS 6 but much improved.

Another big reason why this has us really impressed is that he is only 16yr  old. Hopefully RIM is reading this and if they need some ideas get a hold of this kid. He has some talent.

Thanks to Ashley for the tip, you can discus on the forums at this link.

The BlackBerry 9860 Monza is pretty camera happy. It has been caught on camera again this week with both pictures and video from MacBerry.de and more pictures from GeekBerry. Nothing crazy to see here but the device is looking good. For those of you looking for an all touch BlackBerry this may be your dreamphone until the QNX lineup comes out.

BIS 4.1 Feature Set Leaked – Rollout in September/October

Posted: 11 Jul 2011 05:40 AM PDT

BIS-41-1 BIS-41-3

Wow BIS is finally getting a significant feature bump with v4.1. The team at N4BB managed to score slides detailing all of the features coming in BIS 4.1 along with rollout dates. Some of the features are also BlackBerry OS 7.0 specific which should be launching around the same time. According to their sources BIS 4.1 will be rolling out to Asia Pacific on Sept 10th, Europe on Sept 23rd, and North America on October 8th.

BIS-41-4 BIS-41-5

I am really excited about the new features including my favorite which is email inbox priming. That is a feature that has been available on BES servers for awhile giving you access to your last chunk of emails. With BIS 4.1 it will preload the most recent 20 emails so you will have conversations on your device preloaded. There are loads of other goodies including better account management and message improvements for OS 7.0 so check them out in the slides!
