Android Devs: Port Your App at BlackBerry DevCon SF to Get a Free Pass & Free PlayBook!

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 01:42 PM PDT

App Express

If you are an Android Dev or know an Android dev who lives in the San Francisco area make sure to give them a heads up about this. We just heard that the App Express booth RIM has at DevCon San Francisco is open to everybody. That means that any Android developer can bring their app to port to the BlackBerry PlayBook with RIM's assistance during the conference. Here is how RIM describes it:

App Express opens on Monday, October 17 and runs through Thursday, October 20. You don’t even have to be registered for BlackBerry DevCon Americas. Come by and try out App Express on us, and then stick around for the rest of the content, insights, networking and more at the conference.

We found out that means that you will get a free pass to the rest of the conference after you successfully port your app. From what we hear that means you also get a free BlackBerry PlayBook like any other BlackBerry DevCon attendee. Sweet deal right? Keep in mind you need to sign up for free BlackBerry code signing keys which can take up to 2 hours to get so get those first.

Check out the full details at the DevCon App Express page

Four New & Free BlackBerry Smartphone Games from XIMAD

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 12:56 PM PDT

zuminja Bemoneyed

XIMAD let us know that they have released four new BlackBerry smartphone games over the weekend. The new games range from the fun Bejeweled clone called Bemoneyed to variants of their current games like Zuminja. Definitely worth checking out if you want some more free games on your BlackBerry. Fox and Geese even throws in BBM integration for gameplay.

Fox and Geese Riddles

Zuminja Free in App World – Zuminja presents you the other variant of your favorite game. XIMAD focused on the traditional gameplay, awesome graphics and the unique features you’ll discover only in Zuminja.

Bemoneyed in App World – Bemoneyed is the awesome Bejeweled games analogue. Your objective is to match the sparkling coins and to form a horizontal or vertical chain of three or more coins. They disappear when chains are formed and coins fall from the top to fill in gaps.

Fox and Geese Free version & premium version in App World – This game is known since 14th century. It probably originated in Scandinavia, as a variant of Tafl. In the English-speaking world a simplified version is known as Fox and Geese. Just remind you the classic rules: the geese win if they surround the fox so that it cannot move and the fox wins when only 4 geese remain.

Riddles in App World -  Riddles from XIMAD highlights 100 riddles to entertain you and your child for hours. Try to find the answer on jolly jester’s riddles, and if you are sure just click on the light bulb to test yourself. Beautiful and colorful graphics will catch your attention.

Let us know what you think if you pick up the games!

RIM Does Their Own Video Comparison of BlackBerry 7 Devices to Older Models

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 09:05 AM PDT

 BlackBerry Comparisons

You can always count on RIM for some interesting YouTube submissions. Their latest are a string of comparison videos between BlackBerry 7 devices and their previous BlackBerry 6 generation or older models. I guess they are trying to show off why you should upgrade though that should be pretty obvious once you pick the devices up. My favorite though is the comparison between the 8300, 9350 and the 9350.

Lemon BlackBerry App for Free Expense & Receipt Management Service

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 07:58 AM PDT

Lemon Lemon2

Lemon showed up on the expense management scene with a splash earlier this month with promise of a BlackBerry app. They have now released a companion BlackBerry app for their service which makes it easy to track expenses and spending through their service. Using the BlackBerry app you can now take pictures of receipts and have it automatically stored digitally in your account. You can also shoot them email receipts and it will parse the information out.

Lemon is a pretty cool service though the Lemon BlackBerry app which you can get in App World though it is a bit buggy on my Bold 9930. Hopefully they will fix that but you can always check out their website at lemon.com

RIM Wants Developers to Prepare for Unannounced BlackBerry 9380 & 9790

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:54 AM PDT

Bold 9790 and Curve 9380

RIM is once again leaking their own device announcements. This time they have gone around and confirmed the BlackBerry Curve 9380 and BlackBerry Bold 9790 through a blog post for developers. They are telling BlackBerry devs to prepare for the new devices and resolutions which is nice and early to get devs ready. The Curve 9380 wont take much for devs to prepare for since it runs at the same resolution and orientation as the Torch 9800. On the other hand the Bold 9790 mixes things up by offering the 480×360 resolution but in portrait view. So in other words apps that rotate well to landscape on the Torch will work just fine on the 9790.

Devs can now download simulators for both devices directly from RIM's dev page
