Review: Jabra Sport Bluetooth Headphones Like many of you, I am always plugged in to my headphones. Sitting at my laptop working all day, I’ve either got a phone to my ear, or earbuds sitting in them. When Jabra announced the Jabra Sport, I thought this was the perfect item for me to try out. After using these for the last week, I would say these headphones are very comfortable. As soon as you put them on, you forget that you are even wearing headphones. They stay in your ears well and do not feel loose. The freedom of having no wires attaching you to your phone, which would otherwise go flying when you walk away is amazing. As one who has been using Shure headphones every day, I must say that the music quality on the Jabra Sport is mediocre. These will not be replacement headphones for any audiophile. That said, the music quality is not terrible, and if you’re using these while running at the gym, you may not notice the difference all that much with everything else going on around you.
One interesting thing I noticed, was that when placing calls while listening to music, the call would start off on the phone handset and switch over to the headset after 2 seconds. This wasn’t much of an issue but caused me to glance back at the phone to ensure I was still connected. This only occurred if music was playing at the time I placed the call, and in no other scenario I tried out. Similar to other Jabra headsets, the Sport announces callers and informs you when the headset has been turned on or off, is in pairing mode, and allows for voice commands. These work fairly well, although I never completely trust voice commands, always double checking the screen to ensure it’s calling the right person. Overall, these headphones are great for anyone who goes running outside or listens to music at the gym and wants freedom from wires and the ability to easily answer calls and switch back to their music afterwards, without taking a break from their workout. | FCC Gives AT&T’s Purchase of T-Mobile a BIG Thumbs Down Posted: 22 Nov 2011 03:21 PM PST
You have to appreciate the times when government officials see through the smoke and mirrors and actually make what seems to be a reasonable decision. The FCC put our a draft order today giving AT&T a piece of its mind. They rejected practically every part of AT&T's argument for why the acquisition of T-Mobile should be allowed through. The FCC says that the merger would reduce jobs rather than AT&T's claim that it would create them and would kill wireless competition in 99 of the 100 largest markets in the US. That on top of the simple fact that they didn't agree that AT&T needed T-Mobile to roll out their 4G network faster. The cherry on top is the quote GigaOm snagged from a senior FCC official:
This does not mean that the deal is dead but rather that the FCC doesn't like the deal and doesn't even want to bother trying to make the deal work by watering it down. They are recommending that AT&T take it to an administrative law judge which is the closest the FCC can get to saying no. Either way it looks like AT&T still has quite a few hoops to jump through before they even get to that judge. The Score mobile app for Blackberry has been updated to version 1.85 bringing OS 7 optimization and a very cool calendar feature. The new version allows users to easily add their favorite teams’ schedule directly to their BlackBerry calendar. This is a long-awaited, and welcomed feature for me. Here’s how to do it:

| Devs: BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 Beta OS Updated to v2.0.0.4869 Posted: 22 Nov 2011 01:11 PM PST
There was a nice little present included in the BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK 2.0 Beta update today. RIM also started rolling out a new version of the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS Beta (developer preview) that they first released at DevCon. BarracudaBob pointed out that once you register for the beta you will get a notification to download OS v2.0.0.4869 which is an update from the previous v2.0.0.3894. Hopefully this update fixes the bridge issues with the previous update. This OS is intended for developers and not for end users but it sucks as a developer to have to cripple your device to use it for testing. Have your electronic devices especially BlackBerry phones being exposed and had some fun with water? Well, it seems that this might no longer be a problem!!! The guys over at Never Wet posted this incredible video which I think is pretty amazing. They claim that with this coating of theirs, it will make the devices:

RIM told us that they would be using The Astonishing Tribes Cascades UI framework in the BBX and PlayBook OS and now we are seeing examples of that. Kyle @BBCool scored loads of screenshots from a BlackBerry Innovation Forum today where RIM gave a demo of native email, calendar, and contacts on the PlayBook. There are loads of goodies hidden in the images of these slides so let us know what you noticed. You can clearly see the Cascades framework in the email client and address book apps. You also notice that the email accounts allow you to have multiple accounts and view folders. There is also a people view in the calendar that may have some GIST connotations…

The white BlackBerry Bold 9900 has been making its rounds to carriers and the latest rumor has it coming to T-Mobile USA soon. CrackBerry scored a T-Mobile flyer showing the white Bold 9900 coming soon for an obscene $299 after rebates and a two year contract. The flyer was mailed out along with customers monthly bill so it looks like it is coming soon. Quite a few readers have been having issues with Kobo reader in the last few weeks and we knew Kobo was working on it. Scuebydue pointed out in the forums that the eBooks by Kobo app for the PlayBook has been updated to v1.3.1 this week. This version is supposed to fix many of those problems so it is definitely worth a shot. I was hoping it would also allow you to sideload your own books but that does not seem to be the case. It seems like the Bangkok flood crisis has forced Research In Motion to take precautionary measures to ensure our safety. Research In Motion has made the decision to reschedule and relocate BlackBerry DevCon Asia to Singapore instead of Thailand as previously planned.

| HomeScreen Missed Calls Displays Missed Calls On Your Wallpaper Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:07 AM PST
There have been quite a few apps over the years since OS 4.7 or so that let you show dynamic information on your homescreen by editing your wallpaper. The latest to follow this trend is another cool app called HomeScreen Missed Calls by ToySoft. The app does a nice job of displaying your missed callers picture on your homescreen. You can show all missed calls or only ones that have pictures in your address book. There is also the option to show the date and number on the picture.
The cool part is that HomeScreen missed Calls also sort of acts as a wallpaper switcher. You select a wallpaper folder which can have anywhere from 1 to 256 wallpapers which will be selected at random and used as the background for the app. You also set it to a single wallpaper along with how often it changes. As a kid you may remember playing the classic Dots game on a piece of paper with friends. Contlex Ventures has done a great job of recreating that experience for BlackBerry smartphones. The rules are the same with you playing larger or smaller boards. You connect the dots and the person who closes the box with their line gets a point. When all the boxes are closed the winners is the one with the most dots.
