Advanced Users: Dingleberry BlackBerry PlayBook Root Exploit Beta Released

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 05:29 PM PST

UPDATE: Beta 0.3 of Dingleberry is now available

DingleBerry

For those of you who were patiently waiting for @cmwdotme to release the Dingleberry exploit you can now rejoice. They have made the root exploit available on their site www.dingleberry.it. It is available for Windows users now in beta form and will be coming to Macs soon too. From what Chris explains this exploit takes advantage of RIM not signing the backups they take through desktop manager and modifies the devices smb.conf. This root exploit essentially lets them run a script as root whenever a SMB connection is made…

Check it out at www.dingleberry.it. Keep in mind this is for advanced users only and while the chances are you won't screw up your devices don't say we didn't warn you! With escalated privileges comes greater responsibility!

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 01:08 PM PST

Adam over at CrackBerry has just posted a great tutorial on how make OS7 compatible themes.  We heard from RIM that OS7 broke the Theme Builder Engine and that it has to do with Liquid Graphics.  We saw our first OS7 theme last week, and there are sure going to be some more coming! Themers REJOICE!

Slick Eternal Legacy HD PlayBook Game Now Only $0.99 in App World

External Legacy External Legacy 2

This is a pretty sweet deal on a very cool BlackBerry PlayBook RPG game. Otoniel @PocketBerry noticed that Gameloft has discounted their Eternal Legacy HD PlayBook game to $0.99 in App World. That is 85% off their regular $6.99 price! It came out back in October though it is still one of the slickest PlayBook games.

You can pick up External Legacy HD for the PlayBook for $6.99 in App World. Just keep in mind it clocks in at almost 500MB.

Rogers Offering 65% Off Select PlayBook Accessories

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 11:49 AM PST

Rogers Coupon

For our readers living up north Rogers has a nice deal going on this week. MobileSyrup noticed a tweet from the Rogers Buzz team linking to a coupon for 65% off select BlackBerry PlayBook accessories. It seems to include all of the accessories except for the BlackBerry Premium Charger.

You can find the coupon here and it expires December 8th. Also worth noting is they have a $20 off a BlackBerry PlayBook coupon but there is a bit of confusion if that is off the $499 or $199 price…

Free Christmas Bubbles Edition Game for the Holidays

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 10:41 AM PST

Christmas Bubbles Christmas Bubbles 2

Karmic apps has made a holiday port of their popular Bubbles Burst game this year. The game is called Christmas Bubbles and essentially just adds some fun snowflakes to the gameplay. Nothing crazy but a good time waster for the holidays. Don let us know that we have never mentioned Bubbles Burst so I thought it would be a good chance to introduce both.

The game is a classic bubble matching game though I wish it had some more difficulty levels. You can download both variants free in App World:

Free Drag Lock Lite App Gives You A Taste of Pro Version

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 08:55 AM PST

Drag Lock1  Drag Lock4

Bulbera has a pretty slick Drag Lock app that sort of mimics the HTC style drag to unlock screen on Android phones. They have also released a lite version of their app that gives you a free trial of their pro version while leaving a good number of features intact after the trial. Both variants work on both newer model touchscreen and non touchscreen devices (use your trackpad).

Drag Lock2 Drag Lock3

Features of both include:

  • Works directly with the native BlackBerry® lock button
  • Automatically locks when your backlight goes off
  • Unlock is as easy as swiping with your finger
  • Zero initial configuration
  • Starts automatically when your BlackBerry® is powered on and runs silently in the background. However, you can easily turn it off at any time.
  • Works for non touch screen devices as well (just use your trackpad)

The pro version and the free trial also include:

  • Configurable background. Use one of the backgrounds coming with the application or select a picture from your device memory / SD card.
  • Configurable sound effects
  • Customizable widgets: clock, notifications (new emails, SMS, BBM etc.), battery level and signal strength.
  • Option to disable auto locking on certain applications (either native or third party). Very convenient for browsers, maps, readers and others.
  • Option to lock during phone calls

You can pick up both versions in App World:

eBay for BlackBerry v2.0 Comes Out of Beta

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 05:10 AM PST

ebay bb 2.0 ebay bb 2.0 2

Just before the weekend RIM finally brought their eBay for BlackBerry app out of the Beta Zone and on to App World. RIM introduced this new version of eBay for BlackBerry in September with BlackBerry OS 7.0 support, selling features, and more. It adds the ability to post your winnings on BBM along with sharing your listings and better searching. It went through a few updates in App World over the months and is now up for anybody to grab in App World. Users in App World reviews seem to be complaining that the previous version did many things better but hopefully that is resolved by RIM with bug fix updates.
