 Jailbreak instructions

Patrick let us know about a video done by MapleLeafsVideos on how to use Dingleberry to jailbreak the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 developer beta and load up Android Marketplace. There really isn't much end users can do with this more than what they could already do with converted APK to BAR files but still its fun if you know what you are doing. Check out the video below and let us know if you try it out:

Units is a Beautiful & Functional Unit Converter for BlackBerry

Posted: 08 Dec 2011 02:48 PM PST

Units 1 Units 2

Over the years there have been many unit converters for BlackBerry. RIM even included a built in Metric converter in their last few OS jumps. Still I am impressed with Bulbera's Units app for BlackBerry. It is both visually appealing and efficient not something you can say about many apps. If you find yourself converting units often you definitely should check out Units. You can see what I mean in this demo video below:

You can pick up Units in App World for $2.99 (On sale for $1.99 now)

Walk Through Hands On Video Of The Curve 9380 At RIM Campus With Its Marketing Manager

Posted: 08 Dec 2011 12:20 PM PST

Curve 9380 hands-on

When I was at the RIM Campus in Waterloo, Ontario last month I got a chance to take a look at the BlackBerry 7 OS running BlackBerry Curve 9380 (a.k.a Orlando) and have some hands on time with it. I then got a chance to really play with it and posted the review you can find right here on BerryReview.com. I spent some time with Brendan Desajardin of the Curve franchise marketing management team who gave me a walkthrough of the device.

According to Brendan, 98% of carriers are going to have it come with a 2 GB MicroSD card in the box. As I mention in my review, mine didn’t come with an SD card of any size but it was a review device so can’t take that to mean anything.

The target for this device is emerging markets – I guess Canada is an exception because we are the home of RIM – and no word at the time of if it was coming out in the USA. No CDMA version of the 9380 is planned but we have already seen in Canada an AWS antenna variant for 1700/2100 MHz networks such as Mobilicity (who has released it), WIND, Videotron, or in the USA, T-Mobile and Cincinnati Bell.

Bendan also showed me on his own personal device the game called 3D Rollercoaster Rush Jurassic 2 which will be installed with the Curve 9380 and is a full game not just a trial. Check out the video below.

BlackBerry News for the BlackBerry PlayBook v1.2.0.5 Adds Google Reader Import

Posted: 08 Dec 2011 04:40 AM PST

It seems like RIM is slowly adding back the features they removed when they acquired Viigo and then stripped it into their BlackBerry News app. At least they got rid of the memory leaks but now they are adding back features like the ability to import Google Reader subscriptions. I would be happier if it were a full on Google Reader client but I am hoping they are working on that for next week. :) Mac at Pocketberry scored this change log for the update:

  • Import Google Reader subscriptions
  • Delete or mark articles as read or unread
  • View additional information about any feed you are subscribed to

You can download the latest BlackBerry News app for the BlackBerry PlayBook in App World
