RIM Welcoming Android Aggregator Developers to Submit App Catalogs to App World

Posted: 22 Dec 2011 02:11 AM PST

Android Runtime

We told you earlier about Handster bringing their catalog of Android apps to the BlackBerry App World. RIM has said in the past that they are working with third party marketplaces like Handster to bring over their whole Android catalog at once. Alex Kinsella from RIM came out and explained a bit of the process on the RIM DevBlog.

In short RIM is welcoming Android App Aggregators to submit apps from their Android app catalogs to App World. Developers can then submit their application directly to App World at a later date which would take precedence and the place of the aggregators submission. This will let developers commandeer the app meta data, screenshots, descriptions, and pricing by themselves in the future.

Rumor: Microsoft & Nokia Also Supposedly Interested in RIM

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 01:58 PM PST

TopsecretGirls

You have to love the acquisition rumor mill. Its so hard to tell the difference between truth, half-truth, lies, and damn lies. Still this one is an interesting one considering yesterdays rumor that had Amazon considering a bid for RIM before RIM turned them down informally. Now the Wall Street Journal has put out another rumor saying that Microsoft and Nokia are also interested in RIM. The Wall Street Journal could not get the story straight as to if the talks are still ongoing or not so who even knows what this means…

Personally I agree with RIM's board that these acquisition talks are distracting. What I would rather them be doing is hiring an army of ass kickers to start making things move faster at RIM and cut through the red tape!

Some Holiday Fun with “Siri: The Christmas Movie” (Trailer)

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 12:57 PM PST

Siri Scary

My buddy Simon pointed out this video on IntoMobile and I wanted to share it with you all. Some of the mainstream media talks about Siri like it is the second coming. This video by Rooster Teeth does not explain why Siri is really just a rebranded marginally improved voice recognition system but it will make you think about it differently…

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Gets Its Own “Night Bikes” Commercial

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 10:21 AM PST

 Night Bikes

About 3 weeks back RIM posted a cool new "Night Bikes" commercial for the BlackBerry Curve 9350/60/70 and then yanked it for some reason. That has not stopped them from posting a follow up commercial in their "Be Bold" series for the BlackBerry Bold 9900. They seem to be pushing BBM and social features of the BlackBerry so I guess that fits into RIM's goal of stressing their differentiators like BBM.

Angry Birds Now Available for the BlackBerry PlayBook (Including Rio & Seasons)

Well RIM finally made good on their promise that Angry Birds was coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM let us know that all three titles from Rovio are now in App World. That includes the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Seasons. I just tried one of the games and the gameplay is really smooth. The only catch is that each of the games is selling for $4.99 and there does not seem to be a free ad supported version out there. Hopefully one is coming!

You can find all three Angry Birds titles in App World for $4.99 each:

Spotify for BlackBerry Now Available for Select BlackBerry Devices

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 07:50 AM PST

Spotify BlackBerry

Jen let us know that Spotify just announced a BlackBerry app on their website. The new app is available now but is limited to certain phones. They specifically list the compatible phones to include the Bold 9780, Bold 9700, Curve 9300, Bold 9000, and Curve 8520 which is odd since their accompanying screenshot shows a Bold 9900… They said that currently the app only supports GSM phones while CDMA phones and the Torch 9800 are not supported.

I am not a big fan of these sorts of quasi launches but if you have a Spotify premium subscription or want to give their 30 day trial a spin you can pick up the app from m.spotify.com. More details can be found  on Spotify's new BlackBerry page.

Free Multiplayer Dominos Over BBM with Lagunex Domino

Lagunex Domino2 Lagunex Domino3

We have yet another classic game going multiplayer courtesy of the new BBM SDK in BBM v6.0. Carlos A. HenrĂquez Q. has created Lagunex Domino which lets you play dominos with up to three of your friends. The team to hit 100 first wins and you can have the computer sit in for other players if you have less than 4. All in all its a pretty fun game though I wish they would add some graphics pizzazz.

You can pick up Lagunex Domino free in App World for most OS 5.0+ devices
