| OS 2.1 Hinted at Again in BlackBerry PlayBook User Manual Update Posted: 10 Apr 2012 08:07 PM PDT
Well good evening everyone. Of late talk of OS 2.0.1 and 2.1 has hit a fever pitch and it seems RIM is already at the point where they are taking care of the little things, like updating the Blackberry Playbook User Manual on line. As you can see in the picture above, the manual now references OS 2.1 and some corresponding Facebook updates that will come with it. Whether its 2.1 or 2.0.1, it seems we will be getting a decent update sometime soon!

RIM dropped a crumb for those adventurous early-adopter types (like me!) in the form of a new BBM update. 6.2.0.40 looks like mostly bug fixes to me, so far, so drop us a line if you find something snazzy and new! The president of the U.S when he took office fought to keep his BlackBerry, and who can blame him, it is a device that gets things done. There is no word what device he is using these days, hopefully a new 9900 since the one he had when he took office is probably pretty sluggish by now. RIM is in the process of implementing a new strategy, by launching BB10 devices, and Mobile Fusion that is promising it just all depends on execution. The enterprise market is one market segment RIM cannot afford to lose, and that seems to line up with RIM announcement to change the strategy to focus more on that segment during the last earning call. Another reason for the rise in sales has to do with the fact that not all agencies upgrade their devices each time a new BlackBerry comes out, some may still be using OS 5 devices if not older. Totzke said that: "About 40 percent of RIM's government customers upgraded to new devices in the past 12 months, he said" which is a pretty good. Today we received a tip that several US and international carriers are already testing PlayBook 3G and 4G with OS 2.0.1. Those line up along side to other rumors we heard in the past. The list below indicates the carriers and country where they are currently testing the devices. The tipster also mentioned that the launch is scheduled for May which would line up nicely with RIM hosting BlackBerry world 2012 at the beginning of may it would make sense for them to announce the device at their own event. So how many of you will actually purchase a BlackBerry PlayBook 4G/3G?

Personally I do agree with most of the points he made on the fact that users can take 3rd party apps and easily load them even if the app is not paid for. A take away from this is the following point: What are we doing? Not really sure how this will play out but it will be interesting to see the BlackBerry community finds a way around it. Most of the news about RIM this past year has been about consumers and government agencies leaving BlackBerry for other devices. In an interview Scot Totzke vice president of BlackBerry security said that RIM government market share is probably increasing. Totzke had this to say:
